WHAT WE DO FOR YOU

The 2,000 companies located in SODO generate close to 20% of the City of Seattle’s entire revenue base. The SODO Business Association works for each and every one of these businesses to create and encourage a positive working environment and expand our influence with city hall and the many governments that regulate business here.

SODO has been generating attention and change since 1993 and today we remain committed to our active agenda to improving protect how we do business. Our officers and members sit on over 40 civic committees, panels and task forces. Together our members are standing up to key issues that affect all of our businesses and SODO's vitality .

M Peringer Head Shot

In 1993, Mike Peringer and other community leaders brought a voice to Seattle’s industrial area by creating an association that would address the emerging needs and concerns of the region’s most important manufacturing center. The SODO Business Association has grown from a handful to nearly 300 companies that today holds the respect and has the visibility of a district that generates almost 20% of Seattle’s revenue base.

Mike Peringer is a longtime Seattle advertising executive. For the past 25 years, he has been marketing and sales director for Process Heating Company, a pioneer SODO business established in 1947, to manufacture electric heating systems for industrial uses. Today, the company supplies patented heating sytems worldwide. Mike is a veteran in the industry and former boardmember of the National Asphalt Pavement Association. In addition, Mike is one of the founders of the Manufacturing Industrial Council (MIC), winner of the 2002 Citizen of the Year Award from the Seattle Police Department and a recipient of the prestigious 2003 Jefferson Award for his dedication as founder of ArtWorks, a non-profit organization empowering youth through the creation of public art. ArtWorks created the Urban Art Corridor that encompasses the murals lining the 5th Avenue busway in SODO. By providing employment, guidance, volunteer and entrepreneurial opportunities, ArtWorks improves young lives as well as the surrounding community. In the past nine years, ArtWorks has created over 1,500 murals that also enrich schools, parks, businesses, and construction sites and has provided mentoring, arts education and job training to over 6,000 at risk kids.

Mike is also a winner of the Sustainable Seattle Social Justice Award, KOMO-TV’s Hometown Hero Award, the Youth Achievement Award from the Youth Opportunities Council and the Anti-Graffiti Award from Seattle Public Utilities for his continued work with ArtWorks and SODO.

Mike is a former chairman of both the South and West Precincts’ Advisory Councils for the Seattle Police Department. A number of his recent community service endeavors include membership on the Duwamish District Council, the MIC, and the Duwamish Transportation Management Association. Over the years Mike has been a member of more than 100 different civic committees.
